  1. Groups: To = Total sample; Ce = Cancer centres; Re = selectively referred patients; Br = Breast centre; Bo = Bowel centre. ANOVA = Univariate analysis of variance. Mean and Standard deviation (SD) were computed on the basis of interval-scaled variables considered as continuous variables. p = Level of significance (0.05). F = Value in F- distribution. Differences between groups were calculated on the basis of ANOVA, F (p-value); Bartlett’s correction was considered. R2 = Share of explained variance (in order to compare with results of multivariate models in Table 3). Bold figures: significant differences (p < 0.05). Five-point Likert scale: 0 = not at all; 1 = a little; 2 = moderately; 3 = considerably; 4 = very much were converted in degrees of severity: not at all; a little + moderately = Low; considerably + very much = High.
